I was born under the oppressive communist regime in the USSR, where Protestant Christians were persecuted, and my parents and grandparents suffered greatly. My family immigrated to America when I was only 15, and I feel incredibly blessed and privileged to be an American.
After graduating from high school and attending some college, I worked in many different jobs, but none were as interesting and enjoyable as clearing weeds and brush in the East Bay hills. This work reminded me of the tasks I did in my grandparents' village, where we mowed fields with a scythe, sharpening it with a smooth river rock. After a few days of drying, we would gather the hay into haystacks. The smell of freshly cut grass is unforgettable!
Working outdoors is great, but steep hills and difficult vegetation can be daunting. Since 2008, I have seen many guys attempt this work and not make it. I like challenges, and I learned from my parents and grandparents, who worked in the USSR under some of the harshest and most unsafe conditions. Mandatory lunches and water breaks were unheard of, and safety gear was non-existent. Many times, they weren't even paid or were robbed of their pay on their way home.
I am immensely grateful for the freedom in America and the free market economy because I can see the stark contrast between here and the life my family endured. With over 16 years of experience working in a great company, I learned to serve my neighbors and deliver quality work. Now, I have started my own business to leave a legacy for my children and teach them the value of hard work. By God's grace, I will consistently provide great value to each of our customers.
